Adopting a TSCR Dog

Choosing to add a pet to your family is a big step. Pets add lots of laughter, fun, and companionship to our lives, but they are also a big responsibility. There are many factors to consider before adopting a dog, such as your lifestyle, personality, financial situation, and housing situation. If you’re considering adopting a dog, you may want to ask yourself a few questions:

  • Why do I want a dog?
  • Do I have time for a dog?
  • Is my living situation stable and suitable for a dog?
  • Do I have the means to care for a dog properly?
  • Can I commit myself to a dog for the rest of its life?
  • Can I cope with the changes that a dog will bring to my lifestyle?
  • Are others in my life ready to accept a dog into the family?
  • Is the dog that I’m considering the best fit for me and my family and our lifestyle?

If you’ve answered these questions and feel that adding one of our dogs to your family is the next step, please read our adoption procedures below and fill out our adoption application. Also, take a look at the dogs in our program, noting their designation (e.g., Under Assessment, Medical Hold, Adoptable, or Pending Adoption). TSCR is constantly processing intakes and adoption applications, so a dog that is listed on our website may be adopted by the time your application is approved. Don’t worry! We’ll continue to work with you to find your next family member.

Although Collies and Shelties are generally sweet-natured dogs, their dispositions can range from extremely gentle and laid-back to playful and rambunctious. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and checked for other health problems prior to adoption. In order to continue our rescue efforts and help more dogs, we require an adoption donation ranging from $125 – $550, depending on the age and health of the individual dog.

Adoption Procedures

  • Browse the dogs in our program.
  • Fill out our online Adoption Application.
  • A TSCR representative will contact you generally within 24 to 48 hours to schedule an interview. To expedite the process, please notify your veterinarian that we will be contacting them and that they have your permission to speak with the TSCR representative. TSCR does not use an 800, 888, or 877 area code, so if you have submitted an adoption application and see a call from an area code mapping to one of our service states, that very well may be a call from a member of our Adoption Committee. Please answer the call or check your voicemail.
  • We will do a home visit whenever possible, and you will need to provide pictures or videos of your home and yard.
  • We cannot complete an adoption application until the above items have been completed.
  • Once your application has been reviewed by the Adoption Committee, you will be notified of the approval or denial. If there is a good match for you in the system, we will place you in contact with the dog’s foster family.  If not, you will be placed in a queue for consideration as other dogs enter our program and become available.
  • If you find another dog in the interim, please contact TSCR to let us know to remove you from our adoption waiting list.
  • Arrangements for visiting/adopting the dog will be made by the Adoption Coordinator and the foster home.
  • Adoption fees can either be paid online via the website or with a check, which may be written at the time of adoption. Writing the check saves TSCR a 3% processing charge for the online payment.
  • Please check your spam folder to ensure that any emails from TSCR are not missed!
