Meet Odin

Say hello to Odin, a handsome 5-year-old Collie who is now looking for a fresh start and a forever family to call his own. Odin recently came into Tri State Collie Rescue and is settling into foster care, where he’s already being affectionately called “Otey.” Odin is a sweet, gentle boy whose favorite place is wherever his people happen to be. Calm, loving, and incredibly devoted, he is a true Velcro Collie who forms a strong attachment to his humans and loves being part of the family.

Odin has been friendly with adults and children and does well with other dogs. He is somewhat timid and submissive with the female dog in his foster home, and he recently visited a dog park where he did very well. Although initially excited to see the other dogs, once inside and able to settle in, he was relaxed, friendly, and quickly lost interest in all the commotion. He is also reportedly good with cats. He absolutely loves riding in the car, making him a willing companion for adventures—or just a trip around town.

Odin is definitely an indoor gentleman. Sometimes he needs a little encouragement to go outside for potty breaks, and once his business is finished, he is usually ready to head straight back inside. He doesn’t seem particularly interested in spending long periods outdoors; he’d much rather be inside keeping his person company. His eating habits have improved in foster care, although he can still be a somewhat picky eater.

Like many dogs adjusting to change, Odin does have a few things his future family will need to continue working on. While walking on leash, he can become overly excited or reactive when he sees another dog, sometimes barking and lunging toward them and other times simply whining. His successful experience at the dog park suggests that this behavior may be related more to excitement, uncertainty, or leash reactivity than an inability to be around other dogs.

Odin’s adopter should be prepared to continue helping him build confidence and work on calm, appropriate responses to unfamiliar people and dogs.

Odin can also be sensitive to very loud or unexpected noises. His usual response indoors is to retreat to another room rather than investigate. While he is generally a calm dog, his adopter should be mindful of this sensitivity and take appropriate precautions outdoors.

At heart, Odin is an affectionate, intelligent, sensitive Collie who wants very much to belong to someone. He thrives on companionship and may have some separation anxiety, so his ideal home would be with a person or family where someone is home much of the day. A patient adopter willing to continue building his confidence and working with him on leash manners and barking would be especially well suited for him.

For the right person, Odin has all the makings of a wonderfully devoted companion: loving, smart, gentle, and happiest simply being close to the people he calls his own.
