Heidi is a very sweet and affectionate 5-year-old collie. This beautiful girl is on the smaller side, weighing only about 35 pounds. She loves to play, get belly rubs and interact with other dogs. She was a staff favorite at her former doggy day care and made friends at her groomers and vet’s as well. And she’s a pro at knowing her basic commands. In the house, she is very easy pup and likes to curl up by the desk while her foster mom is working.
However, we all have our quirks and Heidi is no exception. When she was a pup she was grazed by a car and as a result she will frantically lunge at any vehicle she sees. But with patience and training, she is becoming a bit more desensitized. Because of her issues with cars and the lack of a fully fenced in yard, her former owner preferred to paper train her. Heidi is currently working on her outdoor potty skills. And like some of her breed, she can be mouthy and wary around strangers – until she realizes they have yummy treats in their pockets.
But don’t let these shortfalls dissuade you. Like all collies, she lives to please her people and is a quick study. If you are dog savvy – and especially if you are collie savvy – and committed to her, her issues should be resolvable. We feel that a home with a fully fenced in yard (preferably a privacy fence) and away from busy roads would be most suitable. Another playful canine companion would be a plus.
